Arthrex PRP System

What is PRP?

This is a modern treatment method in which the body's own growth factors are introduced into the joint or other damaged tissue, which accelerates the recovery process.

What is PRP used for?

PRP stands for platelet rich plasma, i.e. plasma (blood fluid) that contains many red platelets. Platelets play an important role in blood clotting. Platelets contain a very high concentration of various natural growth factors. These growth factors can greatly improve recovery from injury. PRP is recently more and more used in joint problems.

Procedure PRP

During a PRP treatment, blood is taken from the horse. The platelets and part of the white blood cells are filtered from the blood. The platelets contain a high concentration of growth factors that promote the recovery process. After filtration, the growth factors are injected in the injured location. The whole procedure takes place on a standing horse under light sedation and is not painful.

PRP gives a kickstart, as it were. Growth factors and white blood cells are placed in the right place in high concentration and ensure a better and faster recovery

The main benefits that growth factors or PRP provide in recovery are:

o Stimulation of active vascularization of damaged tissue, which promotes the supply of oxygen and nutrients and removal of toxic wastes.

o Growth factors/PRP increases and stimulates the cellular capacity to absorb existing nutrients and activates the production of type 1 fibers in the tendons.

o Stimulates the healing process and reduces pain.

o Shorten recovery time and return to sport.

o Growth factors promote the healing of bone, tendon and joint lesions. Shorten the time required for epithelial tissue differentiation and reorganization.
